What do you know about Finn-Som
Clinic
since its establishment in 2005?
Finn-Som Clinic is a Maternity
clinic that provides medicine and health care for the women
and children
in Afgoi town and villages around the town in Lower Shabelle
region. It also trains midwives in the villages around the town.

If we glance the foundation of the hospital, Finn-Som Clinic
was firstly established in 2002 and started working in 2005
as there have been great needs of such hospital to train women
to help and care the pregnant women in southern Somali especially
Lower Shabelle region
More of the Somali journalists visited
the compounds of the hospital on Wednesday and covered more
information about the clinic tasks that the hospital and its
staff were providing to the people.
Batulo
Issak was the first Somali girl that had the
theory of the clinic to develop the health care of the women
and children of Afgoi town and up to 32 villages around the
town. The Clinic is supported by the organization of Finland-Somalia
Association which played crucial role for the building
of the Maternity clinic, medicine and the clinical instruments
via Volunteer for Medical Service
(VMS).
At least 624 women gave birth in the clinic while 2705 others
were cured in the first year it started working in 2005. Most
of those people were from the villages around Afgoi town in
Lower Shabelle region.
In 2006, 744 children were born in the
hospital and 2744 women were hospitalized in the hospital as
more other women from the same region were also medicated.
In 2007, the doctors of the Maternity
clinic had achieved to operate 963 women and made nutrition
for more than 3489 women.
In 2008, 805 women had been operated
and given birth children in the clinic while 5464 women were
cured successfully.
In the last year 2009, more than 908 pregnant women from various
sides in the region were brought in the hospital who lastly
got good care and successful treatment in the clinic. In the
Same year 5934 were also treated.
Dr. Mohamed Hassan
Elmi, the highest doctor of Finn-Som
clinic for the women and children said in an interview with
journalists that they had trained at least 367 women to be midwives
and help the women and the children of the town and the others
ones from the areas.
“The main reason that the hospital
opened was to reduce the problems of the children and women.
To help the pregnant women to bearing and develop the experience
of the midwifes,” said doctor Mohamed
“The most important awareness trained for the women are
consciousness of HIV/Aids,
nutrition of the mother and the children, breast feeding, protecting
the malaria, Faronic circumcision and other diseases of urethra
and wombs,” added the doctor.
Fa’iso Hussein Sharif, one of the
midwives of Finn-Som
Clinic told reporters that that they some times help the weakest
pregnant women from the far away areas in the region adding
that about 26 children including sons and daughters died in
the hospital during their giving birth process.
She said that the Finn-Som Maternity Clinic staff provided
healthy medication to the mothers without paying money, but
those siblings died for the sake of God
(Allah).
Finn-Som
Maternity Clinic is the
only health centre that all the people, mothers and children
of Afgoi town and the other villages around the town in Lower
Shabelle region get health care and medicine and its doctors
consists of 15 midwives with 8 beds to sleep the operated women
and 2 emergency operating beds for the pregnant women.
